10 years of service, then it died!

How long can one expect a machine to work these days? Mine was great until a month ago, when it started making EXTREMELY loud noises during the spin cycle...
Then, I started to notice some sort of filter-type mesh, showing up in the rubber ring area of this washer once the spin cycle finished. Little particles of stuff...ick.
As of yesterday, the machine will not spin fast enough to get rid of the water...it just spins, real slow, then shuts off. Not even an error message.
Maybe I should be thankful for the 10 good years, but I do not look forward to the $1000+ I'm looking at to buy another....

Worked ok for 5 years

I bought this 5 years ago, from the beginning I was not happy with it.1) If you did a single cycle the clothes would have particles from the soap. For best results you had to do a pre-wash cycle2) After 5 years of use one of the bearings went bad, and on the spin cycle it would make a very loud metal scratching noise3) The rubber that seals the door, a piece broke and the door would not close properly, so that water would spill out

Worked well until it died

We got this machine right about 9 months ago. It has worked extremely well. After nine months of using it about twice a week one day we went to use it and it simply would not turn on. Luckily it is covered under warranty and we are currently waiting for a part. However I'm a bit nervous that it failed so early because our warranty will expire in just a couple more months. The function of the machine is excellent, and perhaps this failure is a relatively isolated incident, but it is very worrisome that has happened relatively early in the machines life.

This is for this model only- Not for Whirlpool as a whole.

Had to have several service calls for different minor things. The biggest was that I had to sit near my washer to change to hot and cold hoses back and forth for my cold wash. It was not recognizing the cold wash.I was told I would have to replace the board with was $$$$$. This of course was after the warranty. I called Whirlpool and they wouldn't do anything for me. Finally 5 years later I just couldn't babysit the washer any more and set out to buy a new one. I called Whirlpool once more and they were wonderful. No hesitation or problems. I told them what had happened, which they had no record of my previous calls, and they rectified the problem. I think the first calls I made were handled by a poor employee.I received my new washer today and can't wait to use it.Over all I am very happy with Whirlpool. I guess this model just was faulty.

loads of features yet user friendly

I love flexibility in a product but extremely dislike complicated systems. This washer has it over all others in my book. Loads of great features that you want to use and don't have to go back to school to understand.Would have gotten 5 stars had the door hingenot broke a couple years out of warranty.
