Poor excuse of a dryer
Themaninwi

I hoped this would a great dryer for our new high efficient home. We wanted a ventless dryer as a way not to put a hole in our tight home. I have traveled extensively in Europe and the ventless dryer is common, so I thought this would be a slam dunk. We have worked with this unit for over two years having the local service technician out check it out and numerous cleaning and the performance is very poor. Since then the local Whirlpool dealer has retired. I am currently saving to replace it with something else. We average 3 hours plus to dry bath towels. We just dried a load of kids clothes and it took over two hours to dry on the casual setting. We are a family of 4 and the ability to get only 6 loads done max on the weekend is causing issues. I would take any feedback to improve its performance. Maybe you could give me a second one so I can stack them and at least have two dryers to get my laundry done on the weekend only.

Lint Filter System Terrible

Don't buy this dryer. The lint filter system does not work. Link collects past the filters on the screen before the coils and extends the drying time. There is no way to remove this lint. You can vacuum after every drying cycle and it will make no difference. Love the way it drys but will be worthless in less than 6 months.

THIS DRYER DOES NOT FUNCTION AS IT IS DESIGNED TO NOR HOW IT PROMISES TO. This dryer has a two stage lint trap system and yet I am far from alone in experiencing that lint gets into the interior of the dryer stopping it from functioning. Lint that makes its way to the interior parts of a dryer poses a fire risk. I have called my local fire department and they attest to this last statement. I should not need to pay a service provider or take the hours of time it takes to regularly disassemble my entire dryer to clean lint from interior spaces to make my dryer dry clothes. Whirlpool engineers should reassess the lint trap system, improve on it and customers who have purchased this and all similar models should be given a fix to the problem or compensated.

I bought this dryer the end of 2015. I can't vent in my building, I thought this was perfect. For the first year it did work well. Then it started taking much longer to dry, I had purchased 5year extended warranty, the repair man cleaned all the lint from inside the dryer, it worked ok again for a bit. I've had the dryer cleaned at least 3-4 times still same issue. Now what happens is the dryer overheats while it's drying shuts of and has to cool down 1/2-hour to 45 min to cool down before I can start it again. Some times it takes 5 hours to dry one load! The service tech said it's something to do with the electric coming in to the building, no not so. Also said that they can't service this unit anymore till I fix the problem. The electrical is not the issue. What am I to do now! Do not buy this dryer! They need to go back to the drawing board with this one.

I've had problems with this dryer from the day it was installed. The repairman has been here countless times. The dryer doesn't dry--it takes hours to dry 2 bath sheets. I've started air drying my linen--it's quicker. I get the error code E1/F9 every couple of weeks, needing yet another service call. The control board has been replaced. I think Whirlpool needs to take the ventless unit off the market, or at very least, replace my dud with a new vented unit--I prefer to do the necessary construction to install a vent than have a fickle dryer that opts to work on a schedule of its own.

Buyer Beware
9/4/2017
After only a few months use, the dryer started to make a high-pitched whining noise and that would come and go. Have had a repair technician out twice (full-price charge each time), and still making the same noise. In addition, there is a huge design-flaw with this dryer. What the manufacturer fails to tell you is that not only do you need to clean the two-front lint filters, you must also periodically clean the lint from the back of the dryer. Periodically means often! So, to do this, you have to pull the dryer out of its location, and access the back panel, to remove the lint. If you don't, it takes things forever to dry! Oh, and the door to the front lint filter is made of cheap plastic and broke off within a month of having the machine. I'd wait until the design is improved, or try a different brand.

the filters on the dryer let coins and collar stays thru to the motor. motor wrecked. Whirlpool says "not covered by warranty." It's a major design flaw that lets change thru the air filter. Don't buy unless you either have no change, are PERFECT at emptying pockets, or you have a big reserve fund for repairs.

Very Pleased
6/14/2017
I bought this about three months ago. Very pleased with it. I had been using a regular dryer with an inside vent kit. This dryer does everything I hoped it would. Takes almost all of the moisture out, unlike the prior vent kit. Still produces a little heat but 100% better than regular dryer. Clothes feel softer. Takes longer to dry the clothes but worth it.

Like however it does make room a tad warmer and the filter when you clean it is easy to get turned around/ maybe the word front on it would help. But over all drys fast and need less Downey in washer for the fluffy aspect. Guess I'll see if the power bill is less.

Truely ventless, dries well
New House Owner
5/15/2017
We bought this dryer because it was the only one we could find that did not require some kind of an exhaust vent through one our well insulated exterior walls. Previous review mentioned noise and this dryer is noisy. In addition to the expected tumbling sounds of the clothes in drum, there is whine, not exactly high pitched but certainly additional. I assume it is the heat pump, but I feel it could have been reduced but probably not entirely eliminated. Be aware there is more screen cleaning with this dryer than others but it is not that much of a bother. One does have to take care as the screen seem delicate.

Stay at home Pat

I have had this ventless heat pump dryer for about one month. The reviews when I bought it were not that great but I needed a ventless dryer so I bought it. I could not be more happier than I am. I have washed everything from bedsheets, towels, matress covers bulky clothes, delicates and everything in between. They all come out completely dried. Very little wrinkles! Easy to clean filters and a joy to operate the dryer. Thank you Whirlpool because of this dryer we are able to stay in our home of 47 years.

I love this dryer

I love this dryer. We built a passive home and we were excited about getting this condensing dryer with a heat pump rather than a more standard European condensing dryer. We haven't had any issues with it and I love the energy efficiency of the dryer. I always use the energy efficient setting; it take a little longer to dry but I don't mind that.

A LEMON -- It just does not work (E1 F9)
1/24/2017
We keep getting the error code E1 F9 and the machine stops. Repair technicians have been out 5 times to replace:- motherboard- user interface screen- pump- float switchI have had the entire machine torn apart and spread out in the laundry room and hallway 3 times. It works for 2-3 loads after they leave and then we get the same error code. We now can only use this on Timed Dry...and even then it only works 2 out of 3 times.Bottom line is this: unproven technology that was rushed to market without proper testing and quality control. We have always had Whirlpool products in our laundry (love the load and go washer) but this is a huge disappointment. Going to call for service (again) and have to stay home from work (again.)What I really want is the equivalent VENTED dryer and a refund for the price difference. Oh yeah...and since I bought a 3rd party extended warranty plan for $150...I would like that refunded as well. But...the call center agents do not seem to be able to make that happen.I would not recommend this product to my worst enemy.Thanks.Model # WED9290FW0Serial Number M610001102

Our First Ventless
High Rise Happy
1/11/2017
We've recently moved into a high rise condo. The building requires ventless dryers if the unit owners want to install their own and we complied. We were warned drying time would be long, but the convenience of having the dryer in our unit is worth the longer cycles. And the quality of the "dry" for each type of load is exceptional. We purchased the dryer in combination with a washer and could not be happier.

Don't know what all the complaints are about
Kittie_inFL
12/12/2016
I have had the previous model # of this Dryer more than a year and I couldn't be happier. It makes a different noise than a traditional Dryer but not necessarily louder. It also takes a bit longer to dry, but the literature was very up front about that. Idk how a new Dryer could arrive non-functioning as others have complained about, but that seems to me like a problem with where they purchased it from. I have bought appliances from different stores and anytime I had an issue within the first 30 days my store made it right. I've also never had these described issues with whirlpool whether I was in or out of warranty and I always buy whirlpool for all appliances in the house...maybe it's a regional thing?!? I just wanted to weigh in and say maybe it's not the Dryer or manufacturers fault, just the poor handling from the sales and repair companies they had to deal with.

Wearing Damp Underwear
11/28/2016
We bought this dryer 9 months ago after a dryer fire. We have tried to be patient and learn new laundry habits but we are completely over this dryer. As I type this, my dryer has been running for 3 -1/2 hours on the same load. Average drying time is probably about 4 hours. Towels take more like 6-8. It is noisy and makes our laundry room very hot. I really regret buying this machine.

I purchased this dryer 9/1/16 & had to wait 28 days for it to arrive. I was like a kid at Christmas waiting for the day to come & finally it was here. After just one (1) use the dryer broke! You can imagine my surprise and deep disappointment. Whirlpool did send a repairman out in good time however, I had to wait another 15 days for the replacement parts to arrive, Once it was repaired it worked for about 4-5 more uses and broke again. In total 3x's the repairman has made repairs-only to have it break again. I am now waiting for another repairman for repair #4. Keeping in mind I paid well over a $1000.00 for this dryer and have only had it in my home for about 40 days-only to spend more time not being able to use it VS using it. I will say that the few times I was able to use the Whirlpool Ventless Dryer I did like the results it produced. This is my first time ever purchasing a Whirlpool product.

We were really looking forward to our high efficiency dryer. After waiting 5 weeks (they told us 4 weeks, and it ended up being a week late) it finally arrived, it was installed, and ... it didn't work! The repair person spent 2 hours troubleshooting and ended up *guessing* that the problem was the motor and solenoid. We're now waiting for parts (which could take another week!). We've been really happy with our two previous sets of Duets. This has been tremendously disappointing.
