Quick Fix to Ice

I found a way to periodically get rid of the ice instead of getting rid of the fridge or spending more money. I took out the drawer and slowly poured boiling water over the ice where it starts in the back of the freezer. Enough water got underneath the ice sheet to release it from the bottom to remove it. The first time I picked it up almost as a whole sheet and the second time I smashed it into pieces with my wooden meat tenderizer first! I had a towel on the floor to catch the overflow. The first time I unplugged the fridge, the second I didn't bother, but probably should from now on! I think it was a few months in between, I know when it needs to be done because one of my cats sits by the fridge to catch the drips!

Same Water Leak from Freezer

My freezer also gets the layer of ice on the bottom that water drips over down onto the floor! Why hasn't Whirlpool posted how to fix it?!! I can't see it in the owner's manual or a reply to any of the other complaints. Only reason I can think of is because it can't be fixed like one person said! Elsewhere online it said to take the back of the fridge off to thaw the drain line, but that seems like a big job and I want to be sure I should even do that! Whirlpool please advise us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So sorry I bought this product. My refrigerator is only about 2 years old. Last month ice had built up so thick across the bottom of the freezer compartment that I could not pull out the freezer rack. It seems that many other customers have experienced this same problem. Serious design flaw that needs to be corrected.

This is a relatively nice refrigerator. However, I too, am experiencing an ice build up on the bottom of the freezer. Even after I remove the contents, allow to thaw, and remove the ice layer - it immediately begins to grow back. If the layer is not removed, the door of the freezer leaks.It is a newer appliance, and I don't believe I should be having this kind of issue so soon.

My fridge is 2.5 years old. 1 year after purchase it started to leak, flooding my kitchen floor (about 1-2 glasses of water approximately). I did an internet research and found out there is an ice build-up inside freezer causing the leak. Unfortunately there is no permanent solution to this problem.At about 1.5 years of exploitation the plastic between vegetable drawers broke off.Vety unhappy,I'm not paying a penny to Whirloool megacorporation to buy spare parts.This fridge is deemed to be garbage after 2 years of normal use.

Ice build up along bottom

My refrigerator is exactly 3 years old. Several months ago I discovered thick ice build up across the entire bottom of the freezer compartment which can interfere with ability to pull out the bottom freezer rack. I now need to empty the freezer weekly to remove the ice before the build up becomes too thick. Adjusting the freezer temperature control doesn't help. I have never used the ice maker. Does anyone who has experienced this problem have any idea on how to fix before I call service?

Bought this for elder mother-in-law who couldn't bend without dizziness. I love the convenience of not having to stoop every time I want something out of the fridge. The door storage is a little cramped but I make it work. The freezer has a large capacity.

Bought this fridge brand new, just over a year later the control panel went out. Therefore our freezer would not defrost properly and our fridge was warm, causing our food to go bad. Of course this happened right outside of the manufacturer's warranty so cost us almost $200 to fix.

I really love this refrigerator. I like that I don't hit my head when I come out of the refrigerator on to the handle of the freezer. I love the whole style of the whirlpool refrigerator and freezer. We needed a new refrigerator after 15 years since ice cream and other frozen products were full of freezer burn and ice cubes kept freezing into a block of ice. This new product has done away with those issues and we now have nice fresh ice cubes that don't stick together. It operates quietly and efficiently, more quiet than our old one ever did. It does not run a lot.The inside of the refrigerator box is smaller than our old refrigerator even though it was supposed to be the same size as our old one. There is no storage bin for lunch meat which I miss. It's a tight squeeze to put tall bottles in the door and not a lot of space in the little bins on the doors. Does not store as much as our old refrigerator. It's okay for two people, not for a family and I know when we have company it will not be large enough to handle extra foods for company nor to store left over foods adequately.The freezer bin and freezer storage space is adequate but it takes some getting used to having the freezer on the bottom and having to reach down for ice cubes instead of up. I think I would still like the freezer on top after using this refrigerator for a few weeks though I think the freezer bin gives extra storage space that our other refrigerator did not have.We were pretty much locked into this purchase due to space limitations in our kitchen but had I to do over again I would have moved some cabinets and purchased a larger refrigerator which in no way negates the quality of the one we bought.So far it's been a nice product and I am happy we finally replaced our old one. Time will tell how good a product it continues to be.

Excellent Refridgerator with Fridge on top and freezer on bottom, keeps food cold and frozen items fresh and clean, not full of ice like some refridgerators. I would buy another one like this in a heart beat. kids love the ease of use with everything at eye level for easy access. My elderly father loves the fridge because he don't have to bend to get a cold beverage or something to eat. Our previous side by side went out and after some research we bought a whirpoool with a bottom freezer. The unit works great and the bottom freezer provides much more usable storage than the side by side it replaced. The only design issue is the lack of a butter compartment in the door and it is a bit noisy when it dumps ice. In general though the unit is well built and very easy to access. I would recomend it to a friend. Great product.

Having had other brands, I find this one the most reliable which is the most important thing for me. In addition, I had the option to have the freezer compartment below the refrigerator and find this a much more convenient configuration for my personal use as I find I use the freezer less frequently so I'm not straining my back having to lean over.

To replace a 26 year-old French Door, bottom freeze Whirlpool, this 19cu. ft. bottom freezer fit the bill AND the available space; several inches less wide, and only several inches deeper. Same height, so it fits under existing cabinets.We like the super capacity of the door storage shelves. They reduce the clutter of smalls, and Large milk cartons keep fresh longer when they can be stored at lowest level on doors rather than top shelf.Since we don't need the ice-maker, it was a bit of a trick to unplug and remove it, but that to added to the large bottom freezer space.Extremely quiet operation, and we immediately noticed reduced electricity bills.Thanks, Whirlpool.

Overall, this frig is very easy to use. the only feature I would like is a meat tray which I didn't order, thought it came with. I really like the refrigerator portion and I wanted a refrig with the freezer on the bottom. However, it would have been much better had this unit been made with a pull-out drawer instead of a door. I wanted to get away from things falling out of the top of the freezer which is why I wanted a bottom freezer. But, for some reason, it's not easy to get things out of the bottom of this freezer because of the door. Other than that, I really like this unit.

I was limited in width and height of a refrigerator so I selected this one. Generally, I am pleased, but would improve it by adding a butter space in the door (with a cover) and make the front on the door shelves a little shorter - at least on some of the door compartments as some of my smaller containers are hidden by the front of the shelf..or perhaps making the front clear.
